Artist Statement

Luke 24:5-6 " ...Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen..." The empty tomb has deep meaning for all Christians.

As I have aspired to humbly progress on my own spiritual journey, I have found I need to prioritize emulating the example and teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Religious institutions provide a great map, template and venue. However, as C.S. Lewis suggests in Mere Christianity, the map is not the place.

This is illustrated by the women in the painting. The attention of two are focussed on the tomb where they last saw Him. Mary Magdalene's gaze is more expansive, taking in the broader world as she seeks the Living Christ and evidence of his presence.
