Quilting Bee

A quilting bee was a rare and delightful social opportunity for 19th century women. The values of friendship, family and community are represented here as all the seasons of maiden, mother and matron are strengthened and supported. The traditional “Rose of Sharon” pattern of the quilt is reminiscent of the skillfully made appliqué quilts that were popular in the 1830’s.
